ave In was formed by Jay Frechette and Steve Brodsky in early 1995. The initial line-up consisted of Frechette on vocals, Brodsky on guitar and vocals, Adam McGrath on second guitar, JR Conners on drums and Justin Matthes on bass. They would soon release a demo and a handful of split 7" releases with bands such as Gambit, Piebald and Early Grace, and see Matthes briefly replaced by Andy Kyte. 1997 saw Cave In's first release; a self-titled 7" on Aaron Turner's Hydra Head Records. Following that release, the band embarked on a three week East Coast tour. That tour was, however, cut a week short due to Jay Frechette's prior obligations to join and tour with Boston-based Ten Yard Fight. Hailing from the suburb village of Menomonee Falls, Tyler Trokan (Vocals), Jake Noggle (Vocals), Jared Block (Guitar), Ike Weins (Guitar), Jeff Jelenchick (Bass), and Josh Fox (Drums) have grown up together and have been best friends several years before the band came to. All six went to the same high school, and five out of six even went to the same Catholic grade school. A big part of the reason they are a band is their faith. Block goes on to explain....

Caliban was formed in Hattingen, Germany in 1997 under the name Never Again".[2] After six months of playing together, the band recorded their first two songs for a demo, which were never released. The songs were sent to several record labels, and Lifeforce Records was the first to offer the band a record deal. The band's first self-titled EP came out in the summer of 1998. To promote it, Caliban played many shows all over Europe and a few support shows for bands including Morning Again, Earth Crisis and Cro-Mags.

Debut 7" by this Australian hardcore band and it's a loud, raw,
and fucked up mess... this sort of reminds me of Dry Rot
playing through Firmeza 10's equipment... in other words, the
sound of the record is raw as fuck in the vein of a lot of the
newer noise punk bands, but the music is fucking weird as shit
with lots of strange twists and turns and tons of noise and
discordance. If you're into stuff like Timebombs or Cult Ritual
you'd be well-served to check this out.
